I met my best friend in life 5 years ago. We have traveled the world, we hold hands and we are finally under the same roof. Challenges with blending a family? Yes? Worth it, again…yes.
Summer of 2023 was big, we finally and officially moved in together and blended the families. It is so easy to be on the go for kids, fixating on their adjustments and well being and forget that as a couple, you need time set aside just for the two of you.
One thing we both enjoy is live music and have attended some great shows over the years from Green Day to Snoop Dogg / Ice Cube (the latter being more “great” for me) to Sheryl Crowe, Weezer, Billy Joel and Lionel Ritchie. While writing this post it hit me, we need a more focused effort on doing these things, so I got up and gave Rachel a big hug, told her I loved her and requested a walk/run together today (10/1/2023).
This summer we attended Culture Club with Berlin and Howard Jones. Boy George was the headline and the 80’s were back….but it was our least favorite show to date. Did we have fun? YES….$30 dollar shaved ice drinks with enough alcohol that a mosquito would not get a DUI from an entire drink made us laugh and the people watching is always the best. Berlin singing “Take My Breath Away” while 55+ year old men sang along to a scantily clad 80’s singer just….well, takes one’s breath away.
We enjoyed laughing together, reminiscing on songs we both loved from different stages of life, to a life brought together. We have become a date night of wine/spirits at a local “speakeasy” with mid week trivia nights mixed in.
2023 has been a slow year of shows for us; Weezer, Culture Club, Berlin, Howard Jones (we sold our Sting tickets), but we have found ourselves on some pretty cool date nights. It has been a fast year and lots of changes for everyone! A house full of active kids keep us busy and we both try to make the date nights and days count.
