Tornados, EV’s and Life

A lot changes in half a year. My last post “Showtime” bore witness to Gabi signing with a talent agent, Lexi and Kati flew the longest direct flight available from Atlanta for their 3 week internship in South Korea and Corban has a drivers license and a job! Dylan finished his first year of college and Ryder entered high school and made a solid soccer team.

RECAP
Lexi: presented amazing research on something I can not pronounce while working with a PhD student, traveled the world and fell in love with South Korea, 3 summer internships and turned 21.
Kati: hosted a huge film festival on campus, traveled the world and can’t wait to get back in the air, amazing summer internships, started a fall internship and turned 21
Gabi: signed with an agent, turned 18, graduated high school and made her longest solo driving trip of 4.5 hours to Savannah.
Corban: turned 16, got his license, working a job, still refuses to smile in the limited pictures he agrees to be in. He is always out with friends, which is the 16 year old life!
Ryder: entered high school, made a soccer team, made lots of friends in a new school and environment, flexes in the mirror 17x per day
Dylan: wrapped freshman year of college and a summer job he loved and part of a very funny Improv group.

I love to write, but hard to find the time these days. Rachel started a new role in the world of academia and I returned to my earliest roots of building talent programs within manufacturing. The job market and all around economy are in shambles, but 52 years has taught me this is just part of the process and everything will come up (and go back down) again.

We can now check “hit by a tornado” off the never present bucket list. This natural disaster inflicted wrath with the falling of an oak tree, taking out the master bathroom corner, fencing and totalling the Kia Telluride (which was paid off…) and damage to the Jeep.

Back in May we decided to go electric, relinquishing the Jeep to Corban and me getting the best car I have ever driven, a Tesla Model 3. Wow, so many strong opinions on EV’s (without much data), but 4 months in and I can not imagine ever going back to gas. We did a long trip to the beach and with supercharging it may have added 15 minutes to our roundtrip versus gas, but I really don’t think so. So we doubled down and after the tornado destruction replaced Rachel’s car with a Ford Mustang Mach E. Again, lots of opinions on what is a “mustang” and what is not, but we are highly pleased….and our month power bill increased $65 for charging two cars….I would say much cheaper than gas.

Needless to say, we are ready for some long overdue travel and holiday season! Per the norm, I already have purchased several Christmas gifts and can’t wait for that break!
